Soundscapes differ from more traditional composition in that they often use existing sounds to create an atmosphere or evoke a particular feeling, as opposed to arranging melodies on standard instruments.

Unlocking Our Soundscapes was a 4 week course that introduced the concepts of digital audio mixing and composition to create unique aural arrangements.

In partnership with Unlocking Our Sound Heritage, our participants explored a collection of historical recordings from Northern Ireland, ranging from ghost stories to children’s playground rhymes. Through editing and the application of effects, the class created some incredible work that enhance and recontextualize the archival audio, allowing the listener to gain a different perspective on the original recordings.
